Our script loads quickly around the world

When someone opens your website, their browser downloads Fathom's lightweight analytics script from our global content delivery network. It can load from a nearby location instead of making every visitor fetch the file from Europe.

Distance matters. A request that has to cross an ocean can take longer than one served nearby. For a European business with overseas customers, global delivery helps keep the analytics part of the page load quick wherever those customers are.

Loading the script and processing a pageview are two separate steps. Global delivery gets the file to the browser; data isolation determines where the visitor's analytics request is handled. Our data journey explains both.

European visitor data takes the European route

EU isolation is enabled automatically. Requests from EU visitors go to our European infrastructure, where personal request information is processed before anonymized analytics continue through the system. Raw EU visitor IP addresses and user agents don't reach our US infrastructure.

Under the default routing, other visitors' requests go to our US infrastructure. The protected European region also includes the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. You don't need separate scripts for people in different countries.

What if you need all traffic processed in the EU?

Some organizations want every analytics request routed through Europe, including requests from visitors elsewhere. Fathom supports that through Extreme EU Isolation, using the EU-specific script endpoint described in our documentation.

That is a choice about processing location. Worldwide script delivery and regional processing solve different problems; keeping them separate makes it easier to choose the setup your organization needs.

A Canadian company with European privacy in mind

Fathom is a Canadian company. The European Commission recognizes Canada as providing adequate protection for transfers to covered commercial organizations. That decision has a defined scope; it isn't a blanket exemption from your other privacy obligations. You can read the Commission's adequacy information.

For your review, we provide a Data Processing Agreement, compliance documentation, and an explanation of our approach to privacy. Fathom doesn't use analytics cookies or build advertising profiles of your visitors.

Useful analytics once your visitors arrive

You still need to know whether your website is doing its job. Fathom brings traffic, pages, referrers, and events into a straightforward dashboard. Filter by country when you want to understand a particular market, or look at the whole audience together.
